FAQ

Here you can find answers to some most frequently asked questions

CAN I HAVE ETER 3 AND ETER 4 RUNNING SIMULTANEOUSLY?

In order for all of the advertised features to work as expected, you will need to remove ETER 3 from your device after you have installed ETER 4. That will ensure that your keys will transition to the next generation of the app seamlessly. If there are any problems with opening universal links or Copy to ETER feature, it is a known system association conflict and a simple reboot should suffice.

IS ETER SUITABLE FOR NEWBIES?

Of course! ETER 4 includes a comprehensive tutorial that will show up immediately after you open the app. Alternatively, you can familiarize yourself with the tutorial on the support website.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO CONVERT ETER LINK TO STANDARD ARMORED PGP MESSAGE?

Sure! You can use the converter on the Link Engine website. The conversion is done entirely in your browser, so that you can be sure that your encrypted message will not be saved anywhere it should not be.

ABOUT ETER

ETER is a local PGP suite that perfectly combines security, functionality and modern aesthetics: it will be suitable for the needs of both a newbie who only starts his journey into the world of privacy and a professional who has been using encryption since its inception.

The idea of a one-click decryption app was born more than 1.5 years ago and realized 2 weeks later in May 2017. The first version of ETER was a simple app mildly catering to ordinary people who one day decided that their correspondence belongs to them and them only. PGP was not prevalent on mobile devices not only because of seemingly secure end-to-end encrypted messengers, but also because of the amount of hassle user needed to put into message encryption/decryption as well as the visually unappealing presentation of the message in the form of miles-long "-----BEGIN PGP MESSAGE----- ... -----END PGP MESSAGE----- " text. One-click decryption has solved the first problem - ETER Universal (V3) Links appear compact in iMessage, need just one click to start decryption (on biometric devices) and are compatible with devices without ETER - and Message Builder together with the "PGP Encrypt" extension have solved the second.

Today, ETER 4 looks and functions nothing like its first generation predecessor. The app is constantly evolving and more and more features are added with each release. It's been a very long and tiresome journey of one, but it is in no way over as multiple interesting modifications are yet to come. So, stay tuned for updates! Besides, I would like to cordially thank everyone who provided feedback, submitted crash reports manually and left App Store reviews. It truly helped shape the app into what it is now.
